Dr. Hélène Perrault, PhD

Dr. Hélène Perrault’s commitment to advance healthcare and healthcare delivery extends over 30 years. Currently Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa, she began her academic career as a professor and researcher in Clinical Exercise Physiology at McGill University. She has occupied leadership positions within many Canadian professional and research organizations and contributed to boards of directors such as the Ottawa General Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute.

Pioneering new grounds by using exercise to better understand the causes and repercussions of congenital heart disease and chronic respiratory diseases, she continues to contribute to research and to help train future generations of clinicians and exercise specialists.

A key figure in the creation of cross-disciplinary initiatives, Dr. Perrault has been a lead architect of the recently created LIFE Research Institute at the University of Ottawa, which takes a comprehensive approach to the study of aging by grouping multidisciplinary and cross-sector expertise to explore biological, physical, mental and social issues and outcomes in relation to life’s trajectory. She has facilitated collaborative partnerships between the University of Ottawa and business partners such as Sodexo to drive action for problem-solving in regard to real-life situations.
